Kolkata is preparing for Durga Puja 2025, but the city is already struggling with heavy rainfall. The five-day festival begins on September 28, and thousands of visitors are expected. However, transport disruptions caused by waterlogging are making travel difficult.

Kolkata Travel Update for Durga Puja

Air travel and railway services are facing significant challenges. Budget airline IndiGo warned passengers that “some routes across Kolkata have been impacted by heavy rain, leading to temporary blocks or diversions.”

The carrier also advised travellers to “keep a tab on your flight status via our app or website before heading out.” A Pune–Kolkata flight was recently diverted to Bhubaneswar due to bad weather.

Road Delays Across the City

The railways have also been hit. The Hazarduari Express (13113) and the Sealdah–Jangipur Express (13177) were cancelled after waterlogging in the Sealdah South section. Services through Howrah station and Sealdah yards slowed further as water reached the car sheds. For those planning to travel to Kolkata for Durga Puja 2025, flexibility is key.

Beyond flights and trains, heavy rain has flooded key roads, causing long delays between the airport, rail hubs, and neighborhoods. With arterial routes clogged, travellers are being urged to leave early and plan alternative routes. Road conditions may remain unpredictable throughout the festival week.
