India is leading the global adoption of travel technology, with travelers showing unprecedented enthusiasm for artificial intelligence and biometric systems that promise seamless travel experiences.

India's Digital Infrastructure Drives Travel Innovation

An Amadeus study published on October 27, 2025, reveals that Indian travelers are outpacing global counterparts in embracing cutting-edge travel technologies. The research, “Connected Journeys: How Technology Will Transform Travel in the Next Decade,” surveyed 9,500 travelers across India, China, Singapore, France, Spain, the UK, and the U.S.

Key findings: 74% of Indian respondents favor biometric technology in travel—exceeding the 69% global average—while 64% are ready to integrate AI-powered travel solutions into their journeys.

India’s digital travel innovation stems from a robust digital infrastructure. Widespread adoption of Unified Payments Interface (UPI) and mobile wallets has created a population comfortable with contactless, digital-first solutions—naturally extending to biometric systems that enable faster, paperless airport procedures.

AI adoption in the travel industry has surged dramatically. Generative AI use for trip planning jumped from 17% in 2024 to 26% in 2025, with 33% applying it to international leisure travel.

Results are overwhelmingly positive: 97% of Indian travelers reported favorable experiences, with 49% saving time, 45% discovering hidden destinations, and 44% receiving more creative itineraries.

Real-time AI support is gaining traction—64% of travelers want AI assistants during trips, and 17% would pay up to 5% of their trip value for such services. However, 25% cited frustrations with outdated information, inaccurate results, and insufficient personalization.

Loyalty Programs and Persistent Travel Challenges

Loyalty programs remain powerful: 92% of Indian travelers participate in at least one, with 47% traveling more frequently for leisure and 46% choosing premium experiences as a result.

Despite technological advances, 90% of air travelers still experience anxiety around security checks, flight delays, and airport transfers. The industry is responding with remote baggage check-in, real-time updates, and integrated “super apps.”

Setting the Standard for Global Travel Transformation

India’s digital-first approach positions it as a trendsetter in the global transformation of travel. As the future of travel technology matures and addresses current limitations, these innovations promise increasingly personalized, efficient, and stress-free experiences worldwide.
