India’s tourism sector is hitting a high note as concert tourism in India, and domestic music events increasingly drive travel trends among Indian music enthusiasts.

With the upcoming Bryan Adams India tour impact and the debut of Lollapalooza India featuring global stars like Green Day and Louis Tomlinson, the music tourism segment is poised for significant growth, reflecting a broader trend of cultural and event-driven travel.

In a striking demonstration of this surge, tickets for Canadian icon Bryan Adams’ December tour sold out within a day of release, indicating his enduring popularity in India.

This will mark Adams’ sixth tour in the country, with fans eagerly planning to travel to major cities like Mumbai and Gurgaon from places as far-flung as Ranchi and Uttar Pradesh.

The trend isn’t limited to international artists. Indian singer Diljit Dosanjh’s recent concerts have also spurred spikes in live music events travel in India, with online travel agencies like Ixigo and EaseMyTrip reporting increases of up to 350% in flight bookings around event dates.

Live Performances Driving Domestic Travel

“The passion for live performances is driving fans to travel, transforming music tourism into a major force within the country,” said Aloke Bajpai, Group CEO of Ixigo.

This sentiment is echoed by data from Skift, noting substantial travel bookings to music events across India, underlining the music tourism trends in India.

Adding to the domestic buzz, the announcement of Coldplay’s concert for January and Lollapalooza India 2025, set to feature international artists like Green Day and former One Direction member Louis Tomlinson, has already caused a frenzy.

General admission weekend passes sold out quickly after going on sale in September, indicating the strong pull of major music festivals.

The phenomenon extends beyond ticket sales. Travel-related businesses are capitalizing on this trend, with IndiGo Airlines partnering with BookMyShow to offer up to 20% discounts on flights to event attendees traveling to events in other cities. This collaboration aims to encourage more fans to travel for their favorite music acts, supporting both the travel and entertainment industries.

Research by Future Markets Insights predicts that music tourism in India will grow annually by 19% between 2024 and 2034, outpacing growth in other Asia Pacific nations.

“India hosts around 25 top music and food festivals annually, drawing about 1.5 million attendees from around the world. Music tourism has become a norm, and this trend reflects a growing indulgence among young people and travelers, boosting the overall tourism industry in India,” the firm reported.

As more international artists and music events choose India as their stage, there will be less need for Indians to travel for international concerts
