A new chapter in Indian tourism is set to begin with the opening of India’s longest glass skywalk at Kailasagiri Hills. The project promises to transform the coastal city’s reputation as one of the top Visakhapatnam tourist attractions.

A Record-Breaking Landmark

The Visakhapatnam skywalk bridge stretches 55 metres, making it the longest cantilever glass skywalk in the country. Positioned 862 feet above ground, it offers stunning views of the Bay of Bengal, the Eastern Ghats, and the city below.

Engineers built the Kailasagiri glass bridge with three layers of 40-millimetre tempered laminated glass imported from Germany. Reinforced by 40 tonnes of steel, the structure can hold 500 kg per square metre and withstand winds of up to 250 km/h. Though it can support over 100 people, visitor entry will be capped at 40 at a time, with each group allowed five to ten minutes on the skywalk.

Who Built It and When It Opens

The Visakhapatnam Metropolitan Region Development Authority (VMRDA) is executing the project in partnership with SSM Shipping & Logistics, Bharat Mata Ventures, and RJ Adventures. It was constructed at a cost of around ₹7 crore.

According to officials, finishing touches are underway, and the grand opening is expected in late September. Once complete, it will surpass Kerala’s Vagamon Glass Bridge to become the longest in the country, cementing its place as a flagship for glass skywalk in Indian tourism.

Boost for Tourism and a Symbol of Pride

Kailasagiri already attracts thousands of visitors each year, but the new structure is designed to boost the city’s reputation as a hub for skywalk experiences. The bridge has also earned praise from business leader Anand Mahindra, who described it as “absolutely stunning” on social media.

Beyond tourism, the bridge symbolizes pride for a region often tested by cyclones. Its resilient design highlights the strength of local engineering while offering a thrilling experience to travelers. For visitors, stepping onto the glass walkway will mean more than just an adrenaline rush—it will be a walk into one of India’s most ambitious tourism projects.
