With relentless monsoon showers battering Mumbai and flooding major roads, airlines IndiGo and Akasa Air have issued advisories urging passengers to leave for the airport earlier than usual to avoid missing flights. The Mumbai travel advisory was shared as the city faced widespread waterlogging and traffic chaos.
IndiGo and Akasa Air Issue Mumbai Rains Travel Advisory
On August 17, 2025, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) placed Mumbai under an orange alert, warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall with gusty winds. The conditions have already slowed transport networks, raising fears of IndiGo flight delays in Mumbai and other disruptions for passengers traveling through Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA).
IndiGo, posting on X (formerly Twitter), wrote:
“Rainfall is affecting large parts of Mumbai, and some roads towards the airport are experiencing water build-up and traffic delays. If you have a flight, please leave earlier than usual and check your flight status on our app or website. Be careful on wet and slippery roads.”
Akasa Air issued a similar notice, stating:
“Due to heavy rainfall in certain parts of Mumbai, and Goa, we anticipate slow moving traffic and congestion on roads leading to the airport. To ensure a seamless travel experience, we request you to plan for additional travel time to reach the airport well in time for your flight.”

The downpour has caused traffic disruption at the Mumbai airport on several main roads. Trains on the Western and Central lines ran late, while buses were diverted or canceled on flooded routes.
With evening departures typically among the busiest, aviation officials warned that heavy rains, if congestion persists, will most severely impact Mumbai flights during peak hours.

So far, airport authorities have not reported large-scale cancellations. However, airlines advise early arrival at Mumbai Airport to safeguard against missed check-in and boarding deadlines. Both carriers have urged passengers to check flight status through official apps and websites for real-time updates.
