The system is operational at the Philippine Embassy in New Delhi and at honorary consulates in Chennai, Kolkata, and Mumbai. As of October 31, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) reported that an estimated 7,259 e-Visas had already been issued.
Tourism Secretary Christina Garcia-Frasco praised the DFA for this initiative, saying, “We welcome the announcement of the Department of Foreign Affairs on the full automation of the electronic visa system for India. This is something that the administration has been working on for some time, and we greatly appreciate all the efforts to launch this, especially that we’re looking at India as a very robust outbound market to come into the Philippines.”
With the Philippines visa system update, the country is well-positioned to attract a larger share of India’s rapidly growing travel market. Frasco added, “We are excited to welcome our friends from India, especially that we offer tourism products that are very attractive to the Indian market.”

According to Nangia NXT, a consultancy firm, the number of Indians traveling overseas is projected to hit 50 million by 2030, driven by the rapid expansion of the middle class and improved air connectivity. The Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) has identified India as a future growth engine for global tourism.
In 2023, the Philippines welcomed 70,286 Indian tourists, making India its 13th-largest source of foreign visitors. These travelers stayed an average of eight nights and spent $100 daily, underscoring their importance to the local economy.
The Philippines aims to build on this momentum by expanding flight connectivity and working with local tour operators.
Frasco emphasized, “[We] are looking at India as a very robust outbound market to come to the Philippines.” She noted the government’s ongoing discussions with Indian airlines and tour operators to ensure seamless travel experiences.
