Visa-Free Thailand Entry: What’s New?

Thailand Offers Visa-Free Entry for Indians

The Tourism Ministry of Thailand has extendedthe Thailand visa-free policy, allowing Indian travelers to stay visa-free for up to 60 days.

Initially set to end on November 11, 2024, the policy now offers extended opportunities for exploration, with an option to further prolong your stay by 30 days.

Introduced in November 2023, this policy aims to boost Thailand’s tourism for Indian citizens, eliminating the tedious documentation and visa fees that often deter spontaneous travel plans.

This simplification has led to a surge in bookings, with approximately 16.17 million Indian tourists visiting Thailand between January and mid-October this year, according to a Mint report.

Recent visa-free entry to Thailand for Indians has gained popularity following similar initiatives by neighboring countries like Malaysia, which implemented its own visa-free policy for Indian travelers in December 2023.

Malaysia has since climbed from eighth to fourth among the most searched destinations for Indian tourists in 2024.

Seamless Travel Across Southeast Asia? A Future to Look Forward To

With the growing success of Thailand visa updates for Indians, the Thai government is setting its sights on broader horizons. Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin has proposed a Schengen-style visa for six Southeast Asian nations: Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, and Vietnam.

This unified visa would enable seamless travel across these countries, enhancing their appeal as a collective destination hub.

This move is part of Thailand’s ambitious tourism goals. As of October 27, 2024, the country had welcomed 28.4 million tourists, marking a 29% increase from the previous year, according to a Business Times report. While still shy of the record-breaking 40 million visitors in 2019, the government projects a promising total of 36.7 million tourists for this year.
